Scythian Serum Inspiration | Ancient Amazonian Beauty & Bee Well CBD – Bee Well

There is an interesting backstory behind the development of our Bee Well Botanicals range, but before getting to that we first need to introduce you to the Amazons — the legendary, beautiful, and formidable female warrior race described in ancient history and myth, and remembered as fierce enemies of the Ancient Greeks.

In the 19th century, German historian Johann Jakob Bachofen published what was, at the time, a radical thesis arguing that the Amazons were not merely a myth, but may have reflected real warrior cultures of the ancient world. His work influenced later writers and artists and helped keep alive the idea of powerful female fighters living beyond the borders of the Greek world.

The Amazons are often associated with the Scythians, a nomadic people of the Eurasian steppes whose harsh living conditions demanded resilience, endurance, and practical ways of caring for the body. That connection led us to explore the fascinating intersection of ancient life, botanical ingredients, and skin care.

Last year, by a fortunate piece of happenstance, we came across an online article describing research into the chemistry behind an ancient practice. It discussed how women of the steppes would rub plant preparations onto the skin in response to the bitter cold of winter — a simple but compelling example of how ancient people turned to the natural world for support.

The article then went on to explain that the Scythians are believed to have used overnight facial masks containing cypress, cedar, and frankincense to help protect and maintain the appearance of their skin despite the punishing conditions of steppe life.

Armed with this knowledge, we set out to create a modern interpretation of these practices through our Bee Well Botanicals range, combining essential oils, CBD, tocopherol, MCT, and avocado oil to support a brighter, more refreshed-looking appearance.
